Curved Barbells, or Bananabells, are a common type of Body Piercing Jewelry, and are most often used in navel piercings, eyebrow piercings, and ear piercings.
Our curved barbells are polished to a bright finish, and feature a threaded shaft and two balls that are drilled and threaded inside (externally threaded. The shaft is threaded like a bolt, and screws into the ball.
This threading configuration is called exterior or external threading, since the threads are on the exterior of the barbell shaft. Curved barbells are measured by gauge, the thickness of the rod used to make the barbell, and length, the distance across the curve between the two balls.
The higher the gauge number, the thinner the shaft. For example, a 14 gauge is thinner than a 12 gauge. The shaft length refers to the distance between the two threaded balls. Longer lengths are used for tongues. A 14 gauge longer length surgical steel Barbell is most commonly used for the initial tongue piercing. This allows for possible swelling of the tongue. After the body piercing has healed, a 5/8" Barbell is normally used. Colored Titanium Barbells can be used after healing is completed.
